The Mass Save® Home Energy Audit Process: What to Expect Before, During & After
What Is a Mass Save® Home Energy Assessment?
A Mass Save® Home Energy Assessment conducted by Revise, Inc. is a no-cost, professional evaluation of your home’s energy use. A certified home energy contractor identifies where your home is losing energy, what improvements will make the biggest difference, and which rebates and incentives you qualify for. As a Mass Save® approved contractor, Revise, Inc. manages the entire process — from your first call to your finished improvements.
Before Your Assessment: Scheduling & What to Prepare
Scheduling is simple. Visit callrevise.com or call us directly to book your no-cost assessment. Plan for roughly 1–2 hours, depending on your home’s size.
To get the most from your visit, have ready:
- A recent utility bill
- Notes on problem areas — rooms that are too cold, too hot, or drafty
- Access to your attic, basement, and mechanical systems (furnace, water heater, etc.)
During the Assessment: Step by Step
Step 1 — Arrival & Home Walkthrough
Your Revise, Inc. Home Energy Manager will introduce themselves and review your specific concerns before anything else. This is the right time to mention that back bedroom that never gets warm, or why your heating bill spiked last winter. Every assessment is tailored to your home.
Step 2 — Blower Door Test
The home energy contractor mounts a powerful fan in an exterior doorframe to temporarily depressurize your home. This reveals exactly where air is sneaking in or escaping — gaps around pipes, electrical outlets, attic hatches, and more. It’s the most precise way to find invisible leaks.
Step 3 — Insulation & Air Sealing Inspection
Your attic, walls, and basement are inspected to assess insulation levels. The home energy contractor also checks windows, doors, and vents for air leakage. Here’s the good news: identified air leaks are sealed at no cost during or after your assessment, and you may qualify for 75%–100% off up to $2,000 on insulation improvements.
Step 4 — HVAC & Water Heater Evaluation
Your heating and cooling systems, along with your water heater, are evaluated for age, condition, and efficiency. If upgrades make sense, your Revise, Inc. Home Energy Manager will walk you through Mass Save® rebate options on high-efficiency heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, and more.
Step 5 — Lighting & Appliance Review
A quick review of your lighting and major appliances identifies any that consume more energy than they should. Your home energy contractor will flag opportunities and note any appliances that may qualify for rebates or replacement incentives.
After Your Assessment: Report, Rebates & Next Steps
Your Customized Home Energy Report
Within days of your visit, you’ll receive a personalized report that prioritizes improvements by impact and cost-effectiveness. It’s not a generic list — it’s a roadmap built specifically for your home.
Rebates & Incentives You Can Access
As a Revise, Inc. customer, you’re eligible for:
- No-cost sealing of identified air leaks
- 75%–100% off up to $2,000 on recommended insulation improvements
- 0% financing on qualifying upgrades
- Generous rebates on high-efficiency heating, cooling, and water heating equipment
