The Home Energy Assessment Process

Step 1

Meet Your Home Energy Manager

Your home energy manager will review your utility bills with you, and discuss your concerns regarding your home's comfort and energy saving. He or she will outline the products and services you will receive during the home energy assessment and will discuss potential qualifying Mass Save incentives and benefits.

Step 2

Health and Safety Evaluation

Your energy manager will test your heating system, hot water system, and other combustion appliances for any health and safety concerns. They will also look for additional issues such as the presence of asbestos and other hazardous materials, unsafe electrical wiring, mold or mildew buildup, and roof leaks. If there are concerns, your manager will notify you and make recommendations to remediate the issues.

Step 3

Insulation Evaluation

Your energy manager will evaluate your basement, exterior walls and attic for opportunities to upgrade insulation, eliminate drafts, and make sure key areas of your home are properly ventilated. We will also evaluate your windows, exterior doors, and the potential opportunity for solar. After the evaluation is complete, your home energy manager will review all opportunities and connect you with additional resources.

Review Energy Saving Opportunities

Your home energy manager will prepare customized documents for you and explain the benefits and incentives of the Mass Save program. He or she will review how their recommendations can make your home more comfortable while saving money on your energy bills. At the end of the visit, your energy manager will help you take advantage of all rebates and incentives and can even coordinate setting up a time for the work to take place.

water conservation devices

Water Conservation Devices

Water-saving shower heads and faucet aerators reduce water consumption by up to 75%! This reduces your water and fuel bills while still providing high pressure.

Smart Power Strips

These power strips allow homeowners to avoid the everyday electrical draws from gaming systems, DVD players, and any other device that only works with your TV or monitor. These Smart Strips link those non-essential devices to your primary device, allowing power to flow only when necessary.

Programmable Thermostats

Programmable thermostats allow you to monitor the temperature in your home without thinking. The option to operate them manually is also available and they are much more accurate than traditional, non-programmable thermostats. By setting your thermostat ahead of time, you will reduce your fuel consumption and save hundreds of dollars. Now offering both Honeywell and Nest programmable thermostats.*

*Nest WiFi Learning Thermostats cost $235 and include installation.
