Mass Heat Loan Program Offers Loans to Help Homeowners Make Energy Efficient Upgrades

Everyone wants to maximize their energy efficiency these days, especially true of homeowners. Rising energy costs have taken a toll on all of us in the last year or two, and we’re all looking for some relief.

The Mass heat loan program is one of the best ways to get home energy efficient upgrades. It’s offered through the Mass Save® program, and you can get the loans you need to make these upgrades by getting a home energy assessment from a company like Revise, Inc.

The Home Energy Assessment Starts the Mass Heat Loan Process

To get a heat loan, you need to schedule a home energy assessment through a Mass Save®-approved company like Revise, Inc. When you do, you’ll get a free home energy assessment that will help you define the energy efficient upgrades you need to make.

Some of those upgrades will be simple and inexpensive.

Insulation, for example—you probably take it for granted, and for good reason most the time. But if your home insulation isn’t doing its job, taking it for granted isn’t so smart. You need to know what it’s costing you in what areas of your home, and your home energy assessor can tell you all of that and let you know where you need upgrades.

You can even use your Mass heat loan to finance those upgrades. The cost won’t be much, but you can get a Mass heat loan for as low as $500, and that can go a long way when you’re spending it on insulation upgrades.

It goes an even longer way when you’re sealing the air leaks in your homes. You may be able to have this done for free under the terms of the Mass Save® program, which is the ultimate deal when it comes to energy upgrades.

Window and Door Upgrades With a Mass Save® Heating Loan

Now let’s talk about your windows and doors. Once again, these are parts of your home that you probably take for granted when it comes to home energy efficiency, which is fine if you’ve had them replaced recently.

If you haven’t, though, you may get a serious surprise. Triple-pane windows and insulated doors can make you far more energy efficient, so that’s another way you can use your Mass heat loan to fund these purchases at a discount.

Smart Thermostats For More Efficient Heating Systems

It’s perfectly natural for homeowners to ignore their thermostats as long as they’re doing their jobs. After all, what else are they supposed to do beyond heating or cooling your home to the temperature you set?

Thermostats are getting smarter, and in ways that can help save you money on your home energy costs. You can program them to do zone heating or cooling, and you can also set them on a timer.

With the more advanced models, you can even set up a range of temperatures, and the thermostat will make the most efficient choice and set the temperature of your home, e.g., lower it during the hours when you’re commonly out.

Energy Efficient Appliances Available Through Mass Save® with Low Interest Loans

Next up we have your appliances. Once again, you probably assume they’re energy efficient unless they’ve got some years on them.

Even if they’re newer, you may be making an erroneous assumption. Energy efficiency is growing in leaps and bounds when it comes to appliances, so getting an upgrade and using your Mass heat loan to fund it makes a ton of sense even if your appliances still have some life in them.

HVAC System

HVAC systems are pricier, so you probably pay more attention when it comes to their energy efficiency. If you are, you know there’s a lot going on.

Specifically, furnaces and boilers have become far more efficient than they were back in the day, or even a few years ago. The more energy efficient ones have a rating of over 90 percent, and it’s remarkable how much they can save you.

But you can’t experience those savings unless you buy new ones, and for many homeowners the Mass heat loan is the only way to do that.

There are rebates and discounts available for new, energy efficient furnaces and boilers, but it helps a lot to get that initial outlay covered.

Heat Pumps are the Ultimate Mass Save® Super Savings Upgrade

Finally, let’s talk about heat loans. They represent the ultimate energy efficient upgrade, but they’re a little on the pricey side.

No worries, however, if you get a Mass heat loan. You’ll have up to $25,000 to cover the purchase, not to mention a $15,000 rebate to defray the cost. With that kind of buying power, it doesn’t make any sense not to go for a heat pump if it’s the best choice for your home to become more energy efficient.

If you have a newer furnace or boiler that you’re not ready to replace yet, you can still get a heat pump and use it as part of a hybrid system. Your installer can help you set it up so that the heat pump heats your home in all but the most extreme cold temperatures, and when that happens it will turn over the heating chores to your furnace or boiler.

Financing the Loan, Including Terms and Savings Accounts

Now that you have some of the necessary information about upgrades, let’s talk about the terms of the loan.

If you do go in for a heat loan, Revise, Inc. can help you set the right amount and walk you through the paperwork. After that, you’ll get approved by a bank or a credit union, at which point you can make your purchases and get the work done.

Paying off the loan is a lot simpler than most people think, too. It’s a zero interest loan that you can take up to seven years to repay, and you don’t even have to touch your savings account to do it.

All you need is an established utility account with a Massachusetts provider. Your bank or credit union may ask you to set up a business account to make the payments, which you’ll still be able to track when your updated heating bills arrive.
